The British fintech company Revolut announced that it has received a distributed ledger technology (DLT) provider license from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC). This license was granted to Revolut’s newly established subsidiary, Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited (RGDAL), underscoring the company’s commitment to strict compliance with regulatory standards. With more than 80 million retail customers worldwide, including approximately 16 million cryptocurrency users, Revolut is actively expanding its presence in international markets. Obtaining the DLT license in Gibraltar provides the company with a solid regulatory foundation for offering digital asset-related services outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Emil Urmanchin, General Manager of Cryptocurrencies and New Ventures at Revolut, noted: “Obtaining DLT authorization from the GFSC reflects our commitment to operating at the highest standards of regulatory compliance.” He added that the company plans to announce the specific regions and services that will be supported by the new licensed entity in the near future. Gibraltar is known for its progressive and comprehensive regulatory approach to distributed ledger technologies, making it an attractive jurisdiction for companies operating in the digital assets space. The DLT license allows Revolut to provide services for the transmission and execution of orders for virtual assets, the custody of virtual assets, and staking. Earlier this year, Revolut received preliminary approval to provide cryptocurrency services in Dubai from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), as well as preliminary conditional approval from U.S. regulators to establish a national bank offering digital asset custody and cryptocurrency-related payment services. These steps underscore Revolut’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the global digital assets market by offering customers secure and regulated platforms for trading and storing cryptocurrencies.
